The average person walks approximately four miles each day – that’s 115,000 miles in a lifetime.

Say what you will about the look, feel (or aroma) of the human foot. There is no debating that it is a strong, sensitive and highly specialized structure designed for endurance. The foot contains 26 bones, more than 150 ligaments, 7,200 nerve endings and a complex network of muscles and blood vessels.

It is the capacity of the foot for strength, sensory perception, balance and endurance that inspires our design. kigo footwear is made to allow the foot to perform and to strengthen through freedom of movement. We accomplish that through a few key design elements.

Zero (or near-zero) drop heel Keeping your foot flat on the floor makes sure your posture has optimal alignment.

Wide toe box Your toes splay as you walk. Next time you are barefoot, notice how your toes spread and contract – a wide, foot-shaped front of the shoe allows that motion.

Lightweight Not just light - almost bare – no more than five ounces per shoe.

Flexible sole If you can bend or roll your shoe, it means that the sole allows your foot to move freely. When that happens, your feet get stronger.

Traction If you’re barefoot, chances are, you have a good grip on the ground. Your shoes shouldn’t take that away.

Proprioception This is your perception of the world that comes through your nerve endings – light, thin, flexible soles enhance this sensory ability, rather than limiting it.
